One of the things that seems a bit confusing when it comes to punctuation is the comma and the quotation marks when you are writing the exact title. As an example, if you are writing a sentence and you need to put a comma after a quoted title, which would be proper?

He wrote the following song title "Mandy," a song recorded by Barry Manilow.

or

He wrote the following song title "Mandy", a song recorded by Barry Manilow.

In the first example, it would seem that the comma would be placed incorrectly since the name of the song is "Mandy" not "Mandy,".
