I've also seen situations in which customers were asked to leave for lingering at tables for too long. In the past, that would have been done regularly. These years, niche places have to fret over nasty Yelp reviews, too many of which can help to close them down.

Running a business is tough. My wife had one and decided to just give "everyone" old, young, groups, etc. a 10% discount and just factored it into the prices. She didn't advertise it and when people asked for a discount, she said "you will get it at the register." Everyone was happy.
