I know that my questions are getting old- I'm just trying to get my bearings.

In Dos1's thread (see the link above in an early post), and it sounds like that you download and install debian to your computer (I found a 200mb armel download on debian's site) alongside your current os. Then you apply Dos1's patches (which I have), chroot it, and then put it on the kindle.
The debian download I have is a debian wheezy because I couldn't find sid anywhere.

Part of the reason for my confusion is that twobob is not good at explaining things in a language beginners can understand, and because most of the links in that thread don't exist anymore. The thread is helpful, I'm just having hard time understanding what twobob is doing...

Also, what is multistrap and is it necessary? It would be great to get debian to work in a similar fashion to what's on desktop computers.

One last thing: is it possidble to get to the / part of the kindle file system? I was exploring the section with KindleExplorer last night, and I found out where the screensavers are.
The screensaver hack doesn't work on my kindle...
