You are either transporting it or reading with it. I do not see a difference in use cases between "reading while traveling" and "reading at home". Emphasis reading.

When you are done reading while traveling you either close the cover and put it in the bag or get your sleeve out of the bag, put the reader in it and put the sleeve back in the bag.
I rather have more work with getting it in and putting it out of "transport mode" and less bulk when reading.

For the "but what if someone bumps into you" scenario I do not see an advantage for the cover because a) if it slips out of your hand chances are high it will land on its unprotected screen in either case (since cover is open) and b) without cover there is a lower chance of it slipping out of your fingers since the naked version is lighter and has (IMO) more grip.
