Until wireless charging becomes ubiquitous, they would leave it in because people would complain about having to buy multiple chargers for mutliple locations. A usb cord is tiny and most people have a bunch of them. Wireless plates are not and people would need one for home one for the office, etc.
I don't think that Amazon would be able to count on the battery lasting long enough that you wouldn't need more than one.
