Yes, the need for a charger is the only reason I can see for them keeping it. I imagine a USB port is a pretty cheap component, but as I said, I've read that it is the component that fails the most, so it's more expensive in real-terms.
Balance with that the ability of Amazon to further wall-in their customer base, How many users actually organize books from the computer?
And what about wireless charging? That might shift Amazon towards it.

I can't think why. If the USB port no longer has a function, why not strip it out. Other than for charging, most users don't use it, like the SD-card.
