Audio stuff (rendering, soft synths, etc) also requires a modern CPU, more so than gaming. But I concur, a large number of people use their computers for web browsing, email, light text processing, social media, casual games (often in the browser), and media consumption. None of these require a powerful machine. I could easily do a pretty large chunk of my work on an Android tablet, and all of it if all required programs were available for it.

I like the trend. I grew up (professionally too) with 8-bit and 16-bit home computers, which were relatively compact. Then came the era of towers and all their bulkiness and noise, followed by much more convenient laptops (I got my first one in 1993 already, but it was provided by a company I worked for; I could never have afforded one at the time). Now tablets are soaring and cutting into desktop/laptop sales. It's all good.

(Sometimes I'm still amazed at the tech available today. This is the kind of stuff straight out scifi movies of the 80s and early 90s!).
