The same as my phone and tablet (Android as well) can turn the wifi radio off when it's not actually used, the T68 could do the same.
And since they run pretty much same Android version it should just work.
This IS a software issue, btw. Easily addressable with an update.

Android tablets _don't_ turn off WiFi when they're asleep. You'll still get "push" notifications (email, etc) when the tablet is asleep, and WiFi is enabled. Try it and see for yourself. My Nexus 7 will drain its battery in about 2 days if I leave it asleep with WiFi enabled. If I turn WiFi off it lasts a week.
