The OS should tell you how much space is free when the device is connected.

The sync just needs a WiFi connection. As it runs, it displays messages at the top of the screen. When finished, the sync tile on the home screen will show the time when it happened.

Yes, uninstall the application and then delete the files. In Windows, this is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Kobo. I don't know where it is on a Mac.
