I must admit I never considered the margin settings an issue, I will admit I don't understand Amazon's logic for the two wider margins but this is mine on the thinnest margin setting, using Helvetica and I'm more than happy with it.
I like having the white surround as that's what I used to see on books. Too close to the edge and I'd find it messy.
