Arctic Kill by the late Don Pendleton (
SYKM,
Wikipedia) is #429 (!!) in The Executioner action adventure thriller series starring his very popular character Mack Bolan (
Wikipedia), this installment involving a secret society plot to unleash a virus which somehow ends up in Alaska, free courtesy of publisher Harlequin's Worldwide Library division's Gold Eagle imprint.
At least, it purports to be by him, since it's listed as
Don Pendleton's The Executioner: Arctic Kill, but the internals say that the 1st edition of this is August 2014 and they're not admitting to any other authors† or previous publication on the copyright page on the inside, so this is unlikely to be a genuine vintage Pendleton unless his ghostwriter has gotten really successful at channeling him over the past nine years.
Anyway, it's free and it's nice to get some variety in the freebies we get from Harlequin.
Currently free @
B&N,
Amazon (not available to Canadians),
iTunes &
Google Play (both available to Canadians), and
directly from the publisher (ADE-DRM ePub probably available worldwide; the checkout will appear to ask you for your credit card: ignore it and just clickthrough to the confirmation).
And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because it's nifty to get some variety in the freebies we get from a publisher whose catalogue is for understandable reasons very heavily weighted to one particular genre and only recently branched out, and also one that has a character that people around the world have loved to the point where he's been able to sell 429+ (!!) titles starring him, even if they're probably mostly not written by the original late creator anyway.
Enjoy!
Description
DORMANT DEATH
Formed in the wake of World War I, a renegade secret society has never lost sight of its goal to eradicate the "lesser races" and restore a mythical paradise. This nightmare scenario becomes a terrifying possibility when the society discovers an ancient virus hidden in a Cold War–era military installation.
Called in to avert the looming apocalypse, Mack Bolan must stop the white supremacists by any means necessary. Bolan tracks the group to Alaska, enduring the harsh arctic conditions while dodging highly trained killers.
But the clock is ticking down, and Bolan will need all his skills and resourcefulness to eliminate this threat. All that stands between millions of people and a sure death is one man. The Executioner.
† ETA: Well, they do give "special thanks" to one Joshua Reynolds and
Wikipedia says that he's been a previous series writer for some of these, but it's not like that's the same as actual credit.
