That's my understanding as well. There is a glass layer, but it's lower down inside the device. The top layer, as far as I know, is plastic.
However, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've never heard of anyone actually scratching it with their stylus. I don't think it's something to be worried about with normal use.
