Sigh.. The simple approach was to upgrade the plugins to their current versions. Calibre 2.x uses QT 5 while 1.x used QT 4.

Plugins required updates to them to handle QT 5, so you will find most plugins have new versions that handle both calibre 1.x and 2.x

I'm not sure if Marvin XD has been fully debugged yet.
