I'm cheap and lazy and my K2 still works perfectly well for reading the few Mobi & Topaz books I've bought directly from Amazon as well as most of the freebies I was interested in actually trying and my Sony has been fine with all the ePubs I've thrown at it thus far. It might be nice to have a smaller/lighter/larger-screened device than my relatively clunky older models, but that's not enough of a reason for me personally to upgrade and I'm quite satisfied with them.
Perhaps if one day in the future a new and improved e-book format/usability features that's so much significantly better that I have to get a new device to enjoy it portably comes out, then I'll get another one.
But until then, the way I see it, the less money I spend on new devices I technically don't need, the more money I have available to spend on booze and porn e-books to read on the ones I already have.
