The plugin reads a file called "My Clippings.txt". That should be in the root directory of the Kindle when it is connected to your PC.

Yes, how the position is calculated is the problem. There is basically a different method for each device and format on the device. There are some similarities. Devices that use Adobe's RMSDK for epubs, probably have a similar method. My only reference points for this are the Kobo and Sony devices. When I compare what is in a Sony database with what my Kobo's have, I can see the similarities. I haven't looked at the Kindles much, so I don't know there.

If you want to look, the plugin is written in Python. If you can read that, you should be able to see how it reads the annotations from the different devices.
