I've no info, but my guess would be yes - they've replaced a cracked iPad no charge for me before. Though they did check that it was in a case at the time.

The CCTV Apple installs in your home as a condition of warranty, of course.
They saw it was in a good case when I took it in, and asked me if it had been in the case all along. And probably also checked my long customer history with their company.
