Hmm, interesting -- I hadn't noticed that. I guess Amazon is trying to encourage people to switch to the Metro app, but doesn't want to cut off Win7 users.
This runs the risk of making knowledgeable people assume the link is a Metro app and not clicking on it on their Win7 PC...

I would assume they look for a user-agent string containing the platform token "Windows NT 6.3" indicating Windows 8, which should be the same on Win8 PC and WinRT. Why would they suggest the PC version on a Win8 PC?
