what I'm reading in this thread is that it is commonplace for manufactures to send out a refurb unit in response to a guarantee claim. but if they only offer 90 days on that then surely the original guarantee is not being fully honored.
The OP said that his warranty was "close to expiring", which I imagine is the reason for the 90-day warranty on the replacement.
