Here's the difference -- for me at least. When I connect my Kindle(s) to my computer, I can see all the books I bought from Amazon using Calibre -- as long as they are loaded on my device. From there I can "move them" to my library. I
can't do that with the Nook. The only books I see on the Nook are side-loaded ones, not the ones I bought from B&N. So, without the download link at B&N (if it didn't work with Greasemonkey) I wouldn't be able to download my Nook books at all. So, for me, it's definitely not the same.
