I've used Barnes and Noble Desktop Reader and now nook for PC to download eBooks from B&N. I've never had any crash or considerable slowdown. I've had more problem with Kindle for PC then I have nook for PC. The problems have been having to log back into Amazon to retell the system to resend the eBook. I've always been able to remove the DRM from either.
