My mother occasionally served us scrapple when I was little. I never knew there were any meat products in it, (she was Pennsylvania Dutch) I always had it with maple syrup. I don't remember it much past 6 or 7, my Dad may have called her out on it. It was replaced by lightly fried corn meal mush (polenta), also eaten with syrup. Considering we ate pancakes or French Toast (never waffles) about 4 times a year, the polenta was a huge dietary diversion.
