Not Keen sitting on the fence
I have a PW1 and didn't see sufficient improvement in the technology to update to a PW2 and yes I have seen a side by side comparison, my wife has a PW2. This isn't unusual for me I often take the upgrade at every other model launch so I was anticipating ordering a Voyage (PW3) at launch, I figured there would be sufficient improvement to justify the upgrade.
So why an I holding fire and well to be honest thinking I'll not bother?
The change in form factor means additional spend on a case which having had the official Amazon case on my PW1 I consider essential. Initially I had a 3rd party cover on my PW1 and the move to the official cover was both cosmetically appealing and the auto on/off was a revelation. So in the UK the outlay is £169 for the device and an additional £39.99 for the fabric case (Uggh) or £54.99 for leather - £208.99 or £223.99
Sure the revised form factor will have contributed to the reduction in weight (180g against 206 for the PW2) but the new Origami cover looks to have more about it even if its only the back stand, wonder what that will do to the 'package weight' might end up being little advantage in terms of reducing the weight. I'll weigh our PW1 & PW2 with cases tonight and post more. Having said that the weight dosent bother me unduly.
Flush screen - I see this as a disadvantage. With lots of electronic toys the screen is the fragile part, if the screen is recessed you can lay the device face down on a solid FLAT surface and know the screen isn't touching anything and so is protected.
Page turn on the bazel - interesting and perhaps nice but the touch screen seems to work OK and I don't need to clean the screen that often.
Ultimately though its cost. If it had been the same cost as a PW2 and the form factor had been the same so we could have taken our existing cases with us I would already have 2 on order. Same cost but need for new cases at £30 80% chance that I would have at least one on order. At the listed price though I'm thinking I stick with what I have, I just don't see sufficient incentive...
I'll wait and see what the reaction is when the first devices hit the street and look at the reviews with interest but it will take a significant improvement in image quality over the PW2 to part me from money.
