Download the new update.zip file from the OP/1st post of this thread. Remove all existing update.zip files from SD card as well as internal storage. The try to update from it but keeping it in /sdcard (internal storage root).
If it still doesn't work, then you'll need to do a manual flash from recovery. Refer to the steps in the M96 wiki, link in my signature & ask it to apply update from SD card. Let me know in case it doesn't work.

Thanks! It seems that I have failed to mention one detail. The version I have is the Universe version from Amazon. Could this be the problem? I am not entirely sure how this version is different from the Booxtor version, but people seem to suggest that updates are only for the Booxtor edition.
