Is there anything I can do to stop my glo from being so sluggish?
Do the page turns get slower as you get further into the book, and then go back to normal when you start a new book?

The only times I have had slow page turn problems has been with certain books which either had broken TOC entries, or had not been properly broken up into one-file-per-chapter, or had extremely long chapters (hundreds of pages per chapter). In the last two cases the page turns become slower and slower the further into the book/chapter I read. In all cases the problem was fixed by deleting the book from the device, doing an epub to epub conversion of the book with Calibre, then reloading the fixed book.
