That is strange. As far as I can tell, only you and your wife are seeing this problem. I definitely didn't with 3.8.0 and I can't think of another report here. So...

What firmware version do you actually have? Your first post says "3.8...". And you say "3.8.x" in your post about talking to Kobo support. Why do you say it like that? It is a typo? And don't say "the latest available". Because of the way Kobo releases firmware, "the latest available" depends on where you are and exactly what device you have.
