(Copy-pasting from the write-up I started before this thread appeared.)
So, to kick off the release of iOS8, Apple is running a "Get started with great free books" promotion in the iTunes store, available in multiple countries in multiple languages.
These seem to be grouped by country/language, but several books which are part of the promo for one country are also unofficially free in another (specifically, Canada, but could also be free for others as well). And some of the titles are price-matched in other stores (specifically, Amazon, but may also show up elsewhere).
Here's a quick round-up listing of the iTunes store countries where the promo seems to be in effect, and also some linkage for the titles which are specifically also free outside their "native" country and/or price-matched elsewhere.
NB: fellow MR member koland
notes that if you don't have a recent enough version of iTunes, you won't be able to see the special promo pages.
(Ultimately, due to length and tedium, I decided against listing the individual titles that I didn't see available outside their promo area or price-matched.)

Japan (5 Japanese titles, also not available outside or matched)
Australia & New Zealand
Are actually not running this promotion, but instead have some 25 free 1st in series books from mainly Australian & New Zealander authors, nearly all of which are not price-matched, and which you can thus see in the iTunes store for yourself, if applicable.
The ones which did show up in other places have all been posted in their own threads because they popped up earlier due to apparently being official multi-store publisher promos and not just an iTunes thing:
Cattra's Legacy,
The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid,
Tamar,
The Chimera Vector
There's probably more lurking out there in countries I haven't checked yet, but I'm taking a break so I can get something to eat and go over the priority posting queue for the selected freebies tonight.
