I suspect that the script, and the desktop apps, download using the same mechanisms as the readers do. If so, they can't break the stuff they don't like without breaking the devices -
all of them, without an update, and they're not going to update the stuff that's been out of production for years.
If they suddenly break 95% of everything out there in the way of nook readers, they'll be facing a class action lawsuit, and rightly so.
