Yes, as far I can tell it's from marketing. With a UI design team or usability group messing it up even more.

It's not that I have any substantial complaints about the firmware, as a whole. 3.8.0 seems to be working fine ... more or less. Though I can't see what in all is much different from the previous 3.5.1 that i was using.

The main changes were with the light. Remembering the state across a connection to the PC is good but the one-finger brightness control was even better. And there were some bug fixes.

But there are some pointless things in it. (Subjective call, I realise.) Why on earth, for instance, would I want to be able to broadcast direct from my Kobo to the world at large what book I'm reading? Who the heck gives a toss about it?

As far as I can see, for every person that says they don't want this, there's another asking for Twitter or some other version. People seem to want to do this. I don't use Twitter or facebook, but I do use Goodreads. I'd probably update that from the device if I could.

And why does Kobo spin its development wheels on things like that, when there are issues to be addressed and features implemented that directly affect file management and navigation? And, ermm, stability of the device's functions?

Because these features sell the devices. They look good on a spec sheet and they are commented on in reviews. I would have said this about annotations and highlights before got my Touch. But, I use them all the time.
But, yes, they need to squash some bugs. I keep wishing for a bug-fix only firmware release. No new features, just clean up what is there. Make it do what it claims to do.

Uh-oh, I'm sounding all ranty. I'd better stop.

Nothing wrong with that. We all need a good rant from time to time.
