I bought the original at a used book sale as I forgot that there was the extended edition also. After a lot of swithering, I decided just to read the version I have rather than seek out the extended one. I've read a lot of arguments one way or another for which is "better" but I thought I'd read the version set in the "original" time period as the update seems a bit weird to me and apparently plenty of others agree. Depending on how much I enjoy it I might give the other version a go, though.
