As for the original choice, it was a really nice science invention memoir by William Kamkwamba (
Wikipedia), who made headlines a couple of years ago for designing an improvised windmill to provide low-cost electrical power as a teenager in his native Malawi. Since some prior books from the same imprint had stayed free for over a week and it had only popped up a few days ago, I thought I'd have more leeway to post it, but unfortunately, it turned out not to be.
It would have been UK-only, though, but perhaps the publisher might repeat it at some point or put it on deep-discount sale again (yesterday evening it was at a pretty decent price of £0.99 after going un-free, but tonight it's jumped to £3.99
