Hmm. I suppose I really should have come back to this thread sooner, but the fact is, that's not true of B&N or Kobo. Every book you buy from them is downloadable to ANY hardware. If it's DRM'd, the hardware has to run Adobe Digital Editions, but that's not an issue, since all the hardware does. DRM is evil, shouldn't exist, but that's a whole other issue.
Amazon downloads, otoh, are for Kindle software only.
