My suggestion for someone who's not dead-set against audiobooks is to try listening to a familiar favorite book. It doesn't matter so much if your attention wanders, as you know the story anyway. You get a narrator's interpretation that may be different from the way you've always felt about the book. Maybe you get some insights you never had, or a different understanding of a character. Maybe there's more humor or sadness than you've noticed before.
Of course, if you don't ever reread, never mind.

Quick question for Catlady (and others in this thread): I have considered listening to audiobooks before, but never have, and I like the idea of listening to them while walking to work or wherever. How do you listen to them? Are MP3 players a suitable medium or do you need a special e-reader with audio capabilities to really enjoy an audiobook? (When home, I can just listen via my laptop, I guess, but how about when I am out and about?).
