Small number of devices as in iPad's, iPhone's, iPod's & Mac OS only vs say Kindle which works on all of those Apple devices plus Windows, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, not to mention Amazon's own devices both eInk and LCD based which is more relevant to an individual book buyer than how many millions of a particular device or brand has been sold. No reason to lock into iBooks even if you're a huge Apple fan when the other ecosystems (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Google, etc.) are available where iBooks is and more.
