Sarah: A Novel of Sarah Bernhardt by Joel Gross, a biofic about the famous stage actress, originally out from William Morrow (now a HarperCollins imprint) in 1987. Gross' bio-blurb says that his other books have been selected for the Book of the Month Club and the Literary Guild.

The author neglects to put in a proper description for his e-book, so I had to grab a rather bland one from an old paperback reprint edition. There is however, an included Publisher's Weekly review which will tell you a lot more about the storyline.

An historically detailed account of the life of an actress, based on the true story of Sarah Bernhardt whose career began in Paris during the 1860s and brought her 60 years of world-wide fame.
