As has been commented on quite a bit around here, I think we who know, care, and do something about the potential for DRM-related lockout, are in the minority of ebook readers.
I believe that the greatest number of folks have an app or device integrated with a bookstore, happily use that ecosystem and happily never venture outside it.
Since Apple device users are especially loyal as a group, I'd guess they are probably as happily satisfied in sticking with iBooks as a non-enthusiast Kindle user is in sticking with Amazon.
