I had the same issues as you (WiFi disconnect/looping/touchscreen issues). Battery calibration (draining) and updating to the latest (9/02) firmware fixed the issue, but I can understand your hesitance.

At times the touchscreen still seems inaccurate - I'm not sure why. It comes and goes. Most of the time it functions perfectly.
