The behaviour above occurs in 2.0 and 2.1. In 2.2 it was fixed so by selecting on the line number it would select and highlight that line. However to select multiple lines you need to click on a column field, ex Title, Author, etc; then while holding Shift or Ctrl click on the next book you want to select.

I'd prefer to continue being able to select multiple lines by clicking on the line number but from what I understand this is a QT5 issue and not something Kovid deliberately changed.
