Amazon flatly refuses and Onyx-Boox.com wants to charge me in the order of 450 AUD for the privilege. Is there anyway I can get the device for something resembling the market price?

Thanks!
Well, you could try ereader-store.de. (Disclaimer: This is not an advertisement)

They were able to ship it to Singapore for me.

Although I must admit, the EUR 51 (shipping) + 7% GST (on price + shipping) + currency conversion made it a lot expensive in the end. Believe me, that figure of 450 in comparison looks cheap.
