I think Apple had their stylus moment with the Newton (I use to have one around somewhere). About 7 or 8 years ago, I used a windows tablet with a stylus. I used it as an ebook reader and note taker. Trying to get the stylus text into a normal text document was what I like to call dancing bear software (the wonder isn't how well it dances, but that it dances at all). It worked well enough for a couple of years, but Microsoft seemed to abandon that particular tablet software along the way.
