True. The X11 design approach was always to have many windows open at once -- henc ebig virtual desktops with edge-flipping in window managers that were otherwise frightfully primitive by any modern standard.

If you want to save yourself a couple of steps, though, do as Kovid suggests, but simply select (highlight) the text, then switch to your new window and just click the middle mouse button to paste. You can't use this to replace text (it'll paste only what's currently selected) and you have to be careful with mouse placement because it'll paste right at the mouse cursor, but there's no need for right-clicks and menus.

X11 certainly has its drawbacks, but it was designed with a very quick cut-and-paste mechanism.
