I've gotten items from Amazon within 1 day when I placed a 2nd order in the early am hours. They somehow managed to catch there were 2 orders and combined them so I got the 2nd order a day early. So for me, service is as good or better than typical under Prime free 2 day delivery.

UPS is great for me for deliveries and thankfully the majority of shipments come via UPS. I leave the front outer door unlocked and the driver knows to leave it inside the door and I check often for the delivery. Never a problem with UPS deliveries.

FedEx though... I sometimes wonder how they manage to get any deliveries right. When I ordered a new monitor a few months ago, Amazon shipped it through FedEx. I sat in my living room near the window where I can see if anyone comes up the steps for deliveries, I didn't want to risk leaving it outside even for 5 minutes (it's a decent neighborhood, but still it was a lot of money). Then my phone beeps with a message from FedEx saying it was delivered a few minutes ago. I know no truck was even on the street, and no one came to my door, I was sitting right there. But I went out and looked around for it in the backyard, at neighbors' houses and nothing. Called them up right away to report it while wondering how do I prove something like this if the driver insists he delivered it to me. After about 7 hours of no responses from FedEx I had really given up ever getting that monitor and was sure I was about to start a fight over the claim for it. Then about another ½ hour later I found it sitting out front next to the door (I was checking every 15 minutes). No phone call, no knock on the door, no notice of any kind, nothing. Just quickly dropped and left.

This week I had 2 packages coming from Amazon again with FedEx. I got the phone notices saying both packages were delivered, immediately went to get them but there's only 1 of the 2 packages there. Called FedEx immediately and reported it. About 6 hours later the 2nd package mysteriously just arrives at my door again. Sadly about 2/3 of the time that's a typical experience with FedEx deliveries for me.

I can't blame Amazon for the FedEx delivery screwups, but I do wish they'd stop using them.
