If I make it always a separate line then I can change the "max authors characters" to max lines. This has appeal because the display changes as orientation changes, making a number of characters less than optimal.

I could make it an option defaulting to "with second line" and allowing "on own line". Setting a value for max authors lines would force the option of moving it to a separate line.

Have you noticed that if you sort by author then the title and author lines are interchanged? That adds a bit of complexity to "under the title", because the title moves.

As an aside: it is interesting how people approach looking at information. For example, I never use the cover grid. Several of you have said you never use the book list. Clearly we have different ways of absorbing the information. Brains are odd things...
