In conclusion, I thank you and kovidkoyal for your detailed help, 2.2 is now up and running just fine. With regard to my Awstats, my website is more for local consumption and down here in Namibia/South Africa there is still considerable XP usage. What with our comparatively weak currency and general supply bottlenecks it's a bit much to expect us to über-consume just for the sake of solidarity with MS's balance sheet.
