Fact is, Calibre v2.0 is running on XP faultlessly under certain circumstances. Probably depending on their Intel board in use, according to some of the forum contributions.

Therefore, would it not be possible to have an not-cracked portable windows version as before. Offered concurrently but separately on the download page with an "at own risk" adage? It can't do any damage and the Calibre folder could be deleted in case of error without anybody coming to harm.

At least as long as there are hardware drivers for XP available for newer motherboards. I, for one, run W7 which I loath on a laptop, and XP which I love on my PC.

At least as long as it lasts. To date, taken globally, there are still more XP users then W7 (63/17%) according to my website's Awstats.
Let me repeat:

As about four threads have already been merged into that one, if a moderator sees this, maybe this one too should be merged?

If you want to run unstable software, you are more than welcomed to run from source, which makes disabling the XP block trivial.

See:

I assume anyone who would know enough to want to try this, would be capable of figuring it out.

No one is interested in making a one-click installer for calibre2.x on WinXP.
Kovid has made clear that he is uninterested in making an XP version of calibre. Unsurprising, since he'd have to maintain two code branches and run two build sessions and devote time to merging changes into the XP branch. And all so that people can once again be surprised when calibre crashes.

If calibre works for you on XP, follow his directions to run from source.
