I find it hard to believe that your screen is covered on scratches (although I'm not accusing you of making it up of course.) I usually keep mine in the front pocket of my shoulder bag along with other bits and pieces (no cover) and as far as I'm aware, it's relatively scratch free. That said, I think the screens of these readers are plastic so are probably more prone to scratching than a phone screen would be.
