The fact you are getting the pop-up message at least some of the time means everything is configured properly.

To make sure the reading position registers to dropbox correctly, I think you do have to exit out of Moon reader -- not just switch to another app, but actually exit out of it. This can be done by repeatedly using the back key until you see your home screen. But that can be tedious. To make this easier to do, I assigned the "Close Moon+ Reader" function to the Click Left gesture on the Mini Status Bar. The setting for this is under "Miscellaneous." It makes it so easy to shut down the reader.

Then to be sure that the device you are syncing to can register the new reading position properly, make sure it has an active wi-fi connection BEFORE you open Moon reader. If you do, you should get the pop up message. If you open Moon reader on the 2nd device while there is no wi-fi connection, the new reading position may not be received.

One thing you can do to make sure you get the new reading position regardless is to bookmark the position. It will get transferred to your other device once a wi-fi connection is established, even if the new reading position doesn't.

As for having the pop-up message come up and it is for a previous position, I have no idea about that. It has never happened to me. Whenever the message pops up, the new reading position is always accurate.
