BTW, I was browsing around on Amazon last night and found that many of the original episodes are now out on DVD even here in the backwoods USA. I've assembled a list of favorites and forwarded them to relatives who seem to feel the urge to spend money on me during the holiday season.

I didn't go for any of the "reconstructed" episodes with bits of animation filling in gaps, but I admit I do find the idea intriguing....
The reconstructed stuff is OK. The original Doctor, his niece, and the 2 teacher/companions are very strange, and it's worth enduring the eroded quality in order to see just how far the series has moved away from its origins all those years ago. It was just sort of "planet of the week" free standing episodes.

The 2nd Doctor was equally old and unpleasant, but he introduced the most important plotlines, Cybermen and Daleks.
