Of course it does, since you replied to
me instead of the person who asked. That turns "answering the question" into "correcting an answer."

No, what matters is that you felt the need to "correct" someone else's answer rather than either answer the question directly or simply note that there's been a new development. The former comes off as tactlessly offensive; the latter is neutral at worst.
