You could also try my editor plugin. It allows you to easily remove attributeless elements, as well as being able to do the same thing based on different attribute criteria. In addition to being able to remove them, you can also modify them--as little as tweaking their attribute strings, to as much as changing them to other tags.
Not that I'm trying to steal Modify Epub's thunder, or anything. If it works for you ... go with it.
