Do both. If you submit a clean EPUB, that is what they will use for distribution to other channels (B&N, ScribD, Apple, etc).
BUT if you want to sell all formats in the Smashwords store, you need to ALSO submit a MS Word Doc (not DOCX, only DOC) for their store.
So do both.
